Troubleshooting

Boiler losing pressure

If your boiler pressure gauge keeps dropping, or the boiler locks out until it is topped up again, there is usually a fixable cause behind it.

Safe checks you can do

  • Turn the heating off and let the system cool before looking at anything.
  • Note the pressure reading on the gauge when the system is cold. Between 1 and 1.5 bar is normal.
  • Re-pressurise using the filling loop if the pressure is low, then watch the gauge over the next day.
  • Check for visible drips under radiators, at radiator valves and under the boiler.

Likely causes

  • A small leak somewhere in the system, often a radiator valve or joint.
  • A faulty pressure relief valve or expansion vessel inside the boiler.
  • Air that was released when bleeding radiators lowered the pressure.
  • A leaking expansion or filling loop that was left slightly open.

When to call Tignite

If you are re-pressurising more than once every few weeks, or the pressure drops within hours, stop topping up and call us. Repeated top-ups can hide a leak that gets worse over time.
