Troubleshooting

Radiators not heating up

Cold spots, one cold radiator or radiators that stay lukewarm while the boiler runs are all common and often easy to sort out.

Safe checks you can do

  • Check the heating is actually switched on, with the thermostat turned up.
  • Feel the radiator: hot at the bottom but cold at the top usually means trapped air, which you can release by bleeding it.
  • Cold in the middle or cold at the bottom often points to sludge build-up, which needs a professional power flush or radiator removal.
  • Check the radiator valve has not been turned off or the thermostatic valve head stuck closed.

Likely causes

  • Trapped air after recent work or a top-up of the system.
  • Sludge and rust build-up blocking flow through the radiator.
  • A stuck thermostatic radiator valve pin.
  • Balancing issues, where some radiators take all the flow and others get none.

When to call Tignite

If bleeding does not solve it, or several radiators are affected, the system likely needs balancing, flushing or valve repairs. We can diagnose it properly and get your whole system heating evenly.
